SEE YOU, GUYS!!!

What is the difference between this two pictures?

TIME

But not simple time.
Time full of learning, of experiences, of discovering Denmark... Time that has made us grow like persons, like the person we want to be.
The magic of this time is that it doesn´t depend only of oneself, it is more how you have the meeting with the world, the persons and how you affront the diverse situations that happen in your life.
We are in the world, only one instant of all its eternity. This is time, but this is our time.

Once, working in one circus the director, a traveller around the world, said me: "Be sure we will meet again. I don´t know when or where. The world is a circle, in one of our rounds we will meet each others". I haven´t seen him yet, but we have met several times. How? Here it comes our creativity: maybe with one memory, one word, one picture, one emotion, one tear or one smile. There are so many possibilities like creativity inside us.
I am completely sure that if we really wish to meet again we can do it. How? We will find and create the way.

Thank you for every little and big things.
See you, sure!

DENMARK

What have I learned in Denmark?

"If Americans want to live the American dream they should go to Denmark." (Richard Wilkinson)

What they have lost outside along the history they have to win inside.

Everybody knows everybody: STAND TOGETHER.
For example; small companies, small universities...

"No man is an island." (John Donne)

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

SERVICE AFTER SCHOOL

In Bakkeskolen I have checked how the process of learning  go hand by hand with the CREATIVITY.

In this space, the children are not afraid of going wrong. They are preparing to the real life with their pedagogues. The professionals respect the mistakes as part of the development of each child. This is part of the process of growing up the own personality and creativity.

In SFO, children work in their way. They learn by themselves, of and with the others. In this environment the pedagogues are COACHES. Their function is not control all the things and all the time. What they do there is just to work in team with the same goal which is impulse the responsibility and freedom in  the kids.

The space is organised in the next diverse rooms:

  • Creative room
  • Kitchen
  • Games room
  • Nature room

The children who assist to this service are divided in three groups (white, pink and brown) depending on the age, with their specific pedagogues. However, most of the time they are all together and change of place where they enjoy the time with total freedom. Because more freedom means more identity.

But, look at this:

Here you have the name of all the children in the colour of their determinate group, the  diverse rooms and also the picture of the pedagogue who is there. The parents of everyone come at different hours, then the child should put her/his name in the room where they will be. Then, it is a easy way that the parents know in which place  and with who he/she are exactly. This is a practical example of training responsibility and freedom with the kids.

One of the protagonist of my school experience in Bakkeskolen has been the GAME. I have experimented the Active Learning. Playing games allow apply the knowledge using the own experienceWith the game they learn to live and feel all their body, in other words, they don´t see the body as a way of transport of their heads.
I check in my own life that in the school we only live from our waist to our head and after in the high school from the neck and university we start to live only in the heads. In my opinion, it is sad... we lose creativity, integration, affection. We need our entire body to connect with oneself, the others and the world. I believe that a practical vision of the world can bring one critical reform for the educational system: diversity, dynamism and unity.

I have learned the power of the no verbal communication using the entire body. With movements, paintings, games ad songs you can connect with the children. With this way of relation I could participate and play interactively.

It was interesting see the rules to create the limits necessaries for a healthy development of the child. For example; They couldn´t speak during the lunch time. The pedagogue clapping the hands indicates that the moment starts and they only raised the hand to ask something for help to one of the teachers while the other told one story.

All of this was possible thanks a good educative team with fluent communication and the trust of the families and children of course. Another important element in this SFO is the love and affection between each others to achieve an inclusive service.

EDU-TOPIA

These are the main ideas and feelings to get The Best Educational System in the World. However, the most important matter, by my view, is not this result: is the WAY.
We arrange to this conclusions working by teams, in group through THE SOCRATIC DIALOGUE. It has been one of my learnings here in Haderslev. This is a method, where everybody has the opportunity of speaks and essentially being listened for the rest. This dialogue started long time ago, with the philosopher Socrates at the beginning of that Democracy. The unique problem, is that usually the powerful structures are afraid of the capacity of the citizens when we organize and collaborate together. Because of that we need to practise this kind of dialogue in order to build one society where we want to live

HORSENS STATE PRISON

"Where there is a way, there is a will."

In 1850 a widespread prison reform was introduces and two new eve-catching state prisons were opened in Horsens (1853) and Vridsloselille (1859). Horsens prison was intended for the worst convicts in the country, but when it gained a correction department in 1875 criminals with milder sentences were also admitted. In 2006 Horsens State Prison was closed and replaced by East Jutland State Prison in the same town. A plan suggested to open a prison museum in part of the old prison complex.   (Extracted from http://www.kulturarv.dk/1001fortaellinger/en_GB/horsens-state-prison consulted on 5th March 2013).

Here you have the link to the web page of the Horsens´s Prison, which now it´s a museum you can visit: FAENGSLET (Horsens)

My first impression when I went inside the Horsens Prison was the grey of the walls. All the same colour, small rooms and agony everywhere. Reading the stories of the prisoners I realized that they did whatever they could in order to finish with their situation. A lot of them tried to scape, others trying kill themselves, but when they didn´t get them goal, they tried to be condemned to death penalty attacking a workers or another prisoners. It is amazing how you can feel this between these walls.

One of the stories more impressive for me it was the  one I call "The story of the spoon":

On the night of the 23rd of December 1949, Carl August Lorentzen escaped. It took him almos a year to dig an 18-meter long tunnel beneath the prison yard to freedom. He transported the dirt from the tunnel in his socks and hid it in the attic. He left a note in the cell for the prison staff. It read: "Where there´s a will, there is also a way!"

This story reveals desperation  anxiety, hatred and constance to get the freedom escaping of the place they consider one hell.
ISOLATION ROOM: This room was used when one prisoner shows an aggressive behaviour to himself or to the others. He was  guarded for one official all the time he stayed there.

In that time, another prisoners tried to find another ways to survive in this situation.

Jens Nielsen kept a diary. Or to be more precise "biographies" as he called them. Jens Nielsen wrote with a view to getting this work published in the hope that "...perhaps it could help to warn other young People." Writing meant a lot to him and he re-wrote parts of the diary several times. Hi tries to get the diary published but failed. (1884-892)

"My name is 357. My name is also Hansen and the officers call me by this, but it cannot be denied that I feel more like a number." (Prisoner 1956)

Do you see the differences between these two places?

Room of 2001

All the humans have the need of one space, of one identity it is part of the respect of Human Rights. The closed institutions have this risk, forget the human part of people. For the simple fact of being people we must to have right to this dignity.

But... When  does it change the situation?

How I can check, it changes with the progressive evolution of the law. At the beginning, the law only focused the attention in the punishment. After that,  Denmark advances towards the educational function and reinsertion. By this way, the extreme desperation disappears, then  now it is the anxiety and superation which makes you wish continue your life. No more stories or murders, suicides.

We can see that in this new age the protagonists are the education, the art, the social life... Here you have some pictures of the last years of the Prison which show this fact. just before it was closed in 2006:

Creative way of indicate that it´s the 3rd floor of the Prison. One prisoner drew this painting  in 2003 in each floor (in the 1st one dragon-fly, the 2nd two, etc.) The creativity helps people to be more free and develop their dreams.

Kitchen and dining room

Room of study

I believe that the function of social educators in this prisons should follow the goal of freedom and responsibility of the own life; and find a good method to do it from one educational point of view. In other words: find an dignified will, also using a healthy way.

ACTUAL SPANISH CRISIS

I am really excited of discovering a new way to learn history. It has been the History Class more satisfactory that I ever had. Why? Simple. We have created this lesson, with our effort and our experience. We have tried to involve the rest of the students with an interactive methodology creating our point of view. And this is the really fundamental lesson the capacity of create empathy in ourselves and in the others.

Sara and I have presented as Historical Event which changes the vision of our reality one situation closed to our present and our people.

Here you have our presentation. Click and Enjoy!

CLICK and you will see:

REFLECTION:

The mayor fault was our (ordinary people) desires to get everything; Iphone, houses, cars without having the money.

Why do we humans what materialistic stuff and more and more. We can't we just live on less and ignore commercials? And be happy with less?

It´s easy to say: "It´s fault of the system, of the capitalism, of the globalization!!!"
And this words have a part of true, but at the same time the word fault doesn´t let us think about the responsibility of our acts like persons, citizens of the system (maybe we don´t like this reality, but we are part).

We have learned to live above our real needs and this situation makes us anxious of wish more and more. But it is easier wish materials things, because are physical and are ours for sure. However, wanting more and more about knowledge, friendship, world, conscience is more difficult to conceive. But why? Because it is not to have, it is TO BE. And from this fact, it is indispensable believe in the relevance of the education of children and people.

We are used to think that money is the power. And yes, because it is one medium to get our goals, but not the goal itself. We should expanse our conscience to know and feel that there are so many diverse mediums of walking towards our objectives. It depends of our mind, heart and creativity. For example; there are different social initiatives like the social money, bank of time and each day more and more. It depends of the responsibility of people who believe that this crisis should be one opportunity to change that we don´t like and to grow up like citizens of our world.

"Be the change you want to see in the world." (Ghandi)
